Korean Street Food That Looks Weird but Tastes Amazing (Part 1)๐
If you ever walk through a Korean street in winter, you’ll quickly realize one thing:
Korean street food doesn’t always look amazing… but once you try it, there’s no going back. ๐
Here are some classic Korean street foods that might look a little strange at first — but locals absolutely love.
1️⃣ Bungeoppang (Fish-Shaped Pastry) ๐๐ฅ

| This is an example photo |
For many Koreans, winter officially starts when bungeoppang appears on the streets.
Even though the price has gone up compared to the past, it’s still cheap, warm, and incredibly satisfying.
Traditionally, it comes with sweet red bean paste or custard cream, which are the OG flavors.
These days, you can even find fun versions like cheese or pizza bungeoppang, but classics never fail.
It looks like a fish… but don’t worry — it’s 100% dessert. ๐
2️⃣ Mul-tteok (Water Rice Cake) ๐ง๐ก
When you’re eating eomuk (fish cake), grabbing a piece of mul-tteok on the side just feels right.
Some people like it firm, but personally, I prefer it soft and slightly overcooked, soaking up all that savory broth.
It may look plain, but the chewy texture plus hot soup is surprisingly addictive.
3️⃣ Tornado Potato (Twisted Potato) ๐๐ฅ
This is a street food I’ve been eating since elementary school.
A whole potato is spiral-cut, fried, and served on a stick — it already looks fun before you even eat it.
My personal recommendation?
Go heavy on the seasoning powder and don’t be afraid to make it salty.
It’s simple, nostalgic, and somehow always hits the spot.
4️⃣ Gyeran-ppang (Egg Bread) ๐ณ๐
Egg bread has a whole egg baked right inside, so one piece is more filling than it looks.
It’s great when you’re hungry but don’t want something too heavy.
You get carbs, protein, and warmth all at once — perfect for cold days
It might look like a strange combo, but it’s cozy street food at its best.
5️⃣ Korean Street Toast ๐ง๐ฅช
Let’s be honest — Korean street toast doesn’t always look pretty.
But once you take a bite, it’s dangerously addictive.
There are many styles, but my favorite is the one with lots of cabbage, plenty of butter, and a slightly sweet bread.
Sweet, savory, buttery… it shouldn’t work, but it absolutely does.
